What makes Sampford Courtenay a special place to explore?

Sampford Courtenay is a classic West Devon village, known for its peaceful lanes, historic church, and timeless rural charm. It offers a slower pace of life while being perfectly placed for discovering Dartmoor, rolling farmland, and traditional Devon villages.

IIn 1549, Sampford Courtenay became the flashpoint of the Prayer Book Rebellion, when villagers rejected England’s new Protestant liturgy. Their resistance ignited a wider uprising across Devon and Cornwall, rooted in faith, tradition, and local identity, ultimately crushed by royal forces in a battle just outside the village. A display can be seen in the church.
