Who Are We?

Our home

Langdale is owned and lovingly run by Mike and Julie Carpenter, who, in 2020, set about breathing new life into the old stone and cob barn (now Langdale Barn) and the former seaside chalet (now Langdale Lodge), transforming them into welcoming countryside retreats. With their home nestled between the two holiday homes, they’re never far away and are always happy to help with local tips, recommendations, or anything you need to make the most of your stay. If you’re curious about the journey and the care that went into creating these spaces, you can explore the photo archive and see how the properties were thoughtfully transformed from their original beginnings into the places guests enjoy today.

Our Mission

Our aim is to create a genuine home-from-home, where you can slow down, breathe in the countryside, and reconnect with nature – or set out each day to explore the beautiful landscapes, villages and coastlines of Devon and Cornwall, returning to comfort and calm at the end of it all.

Wildlfe Experiences

From the comfort of your sofa, you can watch wildlife going about its day simply by looking out of the window, or enjoy close-up views via the wildlife cameras streamed directly to the TV in every room. Step outside and wander down to the lake, where ducks and other waterfowl drift quietly across the water, and if you’re lucky, you might catch a flash of blue as one of our kingfishers darts by in search of its next snack. It’s the kind of gentle, everyday magic that makes time at Langdale feel truly special.

Our Smallholding

Langdale sits within a small, peaceful smallholding that’s home to a friendly mix of donkeys, goats, sheep and chickens, adding to the gentle rhythm of life here. Guests often enjoy wandering past the paddocks in the morning, saying hello to the animals as they go, or watching them graze quietly in the fields as the day drifts by. It’s a simple pleasure, especially for children and animal lovers, and a lovely reminder to slow down and enjoy the countryside at its most authentic. Alongside the wildlife around the lake and hedgerows, the animals at Langdale help create that relaxed, rural atmosphere that makes a stay here feel so grounding and memorable.
