WILDLIFE
AT
LANGDALE
Wildlife is part of everyday life at Langdale, and one of the quiet joys of staying here is how close you are to nature. From deer moving through the fields at dawn and foxes padding past at dusk, to owls calling in the night and a rich variety of birds throughout the day, there’s always something to spot if you take a moment to look. The nearby lake attracts ducks and other waterfowl, and with a little luck you may even glimpse a kingfisher flashing across the water. Whether viewed from your window, on a gentle wander around the grounds, or through our on-site wildlife cameras, Langdale offers a front-row seat to the natural rhythms of the Devon countryside.
Around the Lake
There are several peaceful spots dotted around the lake where you can pause, sit and simply take in the view. A swing seat nestled between two ash trees offers a gentle place to relax, while the Willow Hide provides a secluded, elevated perch for quietly watching the water and the wildlife that visits it. Elsewhere, a bench and a number of grassy areas invite you to settle in with a book, a coffee, or just a moment of stillness, making it easy to find your own favourite corner to enjoy the calm of Langdale.
In THe Stream and on the Lake
To bring you even closer to the natural life around Langdale, we’ve placed four wildlife cameras along the stream and a further four around the lake, capturing the gentle comings and goings of animals throughout the day and night. From curious deer and passing foxes to birds stopping for a drink, these cameras offer a fascinating window into the hidden moments of countryside life, all of which you can enjoy from the comfort of your accommodation.

Animal & Bird Boxes
Around the grounds, we’ve created a range of dedicated wildlife habitats, including three barn owl boxes, a hedgehog box, a tree stump habitat and an otter holt, all designed to encourage and protect local species. These natural homes often provide fascinating moments throughout the year, from nesting season to nighttime visits, and can result in some truly special footage. With both external and internal cameras on the owl boxes, guests have a rare chance to witness these beautiful birds up close, offering an intimate glimpse into the quieter, hidden side of countryside life at Langdale.
